Workshops w/ Thomas Ashman & Lynne Perrella

Life......

Whew, Life certainly has been a whirl wind for me...

Now that I am at the end of all the "have to do's" like get a job, a place to live, move, paperwork, paperwork.....

I feel a rush of emotion, wonder where I go from here...

Today, I step back from these feelings to just be here at my store, surrounded by wonderful stuff, wonderful people, beautiful scenery and just be.

Be grateful for my Artists' Nook people and the part of my life which gives me the biggest sense of hope and appreciation for all that I have!

I have posted on My Life's Passion Blog about "To Just Survive Life or to Live Life"

I am getting ready to host workshops with the fabulous Keith Lo Bue, a great person for me to spend some time with at this time in my life. A good soul, for sure!

I took Keith's "Shrines & Icons" Workshop in Virginia 3 years ago.

Keith's has a refreshing approach to putting together found objects into a shrine by choosing objects that naturally want to go together.

Also, He has you think about looking at the items not as their intended purpose in the "real" world but how they will work in your art. Keith taught me how to add interest by creating movement in my objects as doors to peak into which gives interaction with the "audience", the observers.

And that is just a small part of what Keith teaches in his Shrines & Icons workshop!

There is still room in all of Keith's Workshops.....
Check it out

Artists can often be left confused and intimidated as they struggle to determine the correct tool to use to get a desired result. This is with good reason; many tools come with inadequate instructions for use (not to mention safety!). Add to the mix the fact that many artists like to work with widely varied materials, and the stage is set for this class...

In this new expanded 2-day workshop with found-object artist Keith Lo Bue, a myriad of tools and their uses will be covered in layman-ready and safety-first detail, with ample time for students to explore each of the techniques demonstrated.

Tools surveyed will include the Dremel tool, various hand drills, flex-shaft tool, jeweler's saw, and many others. In two information-packed days, students will be drilling, shaping, texturing and polishing metal, glass, stone, wood, ceramic, shell, plastic and more!

Artist Michael deMeng was quoted after teaching a collaborative workshop with Keith Lo Bue as saying "Keith is extremely knowledgeable in tools and how to use them. A great instructor!"

A New Year to Create!

January 1st has come and gone....

The President's Inauguration has come and gone...

Now our focus needs to be on our New Year!

A NEW YEAR TO CREATE......

We have many great things planned for 2009.....

First,
Many of us have made New Year's Resolutions and Resolutions are about changing something in our lives....

My Life's Passion Blog addresses this topic in the most recent post... "Fear or Fear Not Change"

NOTE:

Christine's Life Passion Blog has a NEW address:
So if you have bookmarked the old one, go to the new one and bookmark that!
I am still working on the look that I want and trying to figure out the formatting of posts but at least it is my name as the address! It gives me a sense of freedom!

Second,

Our workshops for 2009 will focus on our traveling, Nationally known Guest Artists Workshops.
Plus, some workshops that I will teach as well but later in the year as I am working on my own personal healing right now.

Our 2009 Guest Artists Line up can be found on our website.

My Resolutions for me and The Artists Nook in 2009 are:

1) Put all the store front supplies and goodies on the Online Shop
2) Offer Tutorials to inspire
3) Teach Online Classes
4) (this should really be number 1 but), Create more Art!

This is just a start, and sometime just starting is what it is all about isn't it?

Artist Spotlight
Michael deMeng -
Assemblage Artist from Montana

The Artists' Nook welcomes back our favorite artist,

Michael deMeng.

Michael's style of assemblage work is edgy, pushing the limits and amazing!

What Michael says about his work:

"My work is about transformations. It is about the transformation of the common into the sacred. Discarded materials find new and unexpected uses in my work; they are reassembled and conjoined with unlikely components, a form of rebirth from the ashes into new life and new meaning."

Here is what students love about his workshops:

1) teaches how to use paint in layers to get the look you want
2)teaches to balance the objects, line and design into your art
3) Pushing the limits on using objects where their intended purpose was not to be hung, cut, or transformed into art!
4) Friendly Critque of the class' day's creations
5) Humor, of course....
6) Tunes (deMeng music picks)
7) And techniques, techniques, techniques

Michael will be at The Artists Nook FEB 20-22nd, Teaching 1- one day workshop and 1-two day workshop.

Side note: This is a secret but it is Michael's Birthday weekend!
