Using polymer clay, beautiful papers, and other elements, we will create freestanding, three-dimensional books that are sculptures or visa versa.
Personal imagery, found objects and other mixed media will be combined with polymer clay to create a pyramid structure that unfolds to reveal a hidden surprise.
Polymer clay techniques include transferring photocopy imagery, carving and antiquing, making and using three dimensional clay pieces
Inside find a book, small sculpture or whatever your imagination dreams up!

A Note from Christine: I saw books created in Dayle’s workshop at Art Continuum many years ago. I remember these beautiful books with polymer clay pages, looking like old paper, loaded with intrigue. I could stop thinking about how beautiful they were! Now is your chance to make yours.
Using polymer clay, beautiful papers, charms, beads and inlaid treasures, you will create a hieroglyphic spell book that has book covers of imitative amber and ivory.
The covers will also feature transfers of photocopy and original imagery, three- dimensional elements such as scarabs and cartouches, and carvings.
The book pages will include thin sheets of polymer papyrus and other designs using metallic powders, spices and herbs!
Come create a magical book filled with wishes, dreams and positive spells!

We will create these figures of polymer clay using unique surface designs of Venetian millefiore and rich embellishments of beads, fibers and your personal treasures.
Hiding places will be explored as part of the design.
The “messengers” can have secret places to hide a message or object, the “storytellers” can house a small book and both can incorporate removable jewelry.
This class will give you fresh visions and open new possibilities for your own work!

Summer at The Artists' Nook
Summer Workshops at The Artists' Nook....
The chairs are folded and the tables are tucked away. But the memories will remain forever.
We had a fabulous art weekend last weekend with artist Robert Dancik. He is truly a top notch instructor who inspired all!
Here is what The Artists' Nook has for the Summer:
Precious Metal Clay Pendant w/Christine
Sunday May 30th 1 pm - 5 pm
Cost $55 plus $16 Supply Fee
This workshop will be held at my home studio in Loveland. Directions will be given at registration. To Register please call me on my cell phone at (970) 231-6313.
Precious Metal Clay is fine silver with added binders to make it work similar to clay. Once your piece is fired and polished you have a fine silver (99%) pendant.
The wonderful handmade look is so unique, you will get so many comments from others when you wear your pendant!
I will teach you how to add texture, set a stone, add a bail, finish, firing, polish and tips on working with this wonderful medium.
Kit fee: includes 9 grams of PMC3 & CZ

THE ARTISTS' NOOK presents:
Leighanna Light's Workshops are just around the corner!
Leighanna is a wonderful mixed media artist that stretches beyond the norm in altered art!
Always trying something different to get the look she wants, Leighanna will teach you to do the same.
If you always wanted to learn to work with Metal learn how to patina, alter and attach to metal then Leighanna's Beyond the Vintage Metal Deck will teach you that and more. This is a 1 1/2 day workshop on Saturday May 1st. If your schedule only allows for you to attend the day portion, you are welcome to come and will still learn quite a bit about metal.
And if books are your thing, You cannot miss Friday's Construction of an Art Book! This lovely, chunky book is full of techniques you can use in all your altered art work!
And Finally on Sunday, Masks will be the creations in... Who was that Masked Man?
A new type of clay that remains strong, durable & does not require baking will be used to create these masks!
Since it is tax month, We lowered the price of Leighanna's workshops to make the tax paying pain a little easier.
Hopefully, you got a tax refund instead of having to pay but either way we wanted to give everyone a break!

Frank Stanley - An Artist with a Cause
Frank Stanley painting 1,000 Cranes
An artist friend of mine, Frank Stanley of Fort Collins strongly believes is this Japanese Legend.

Make 1,000 Origami Cranes and you will be granted a wish from a crane such as a long life or recovery of an illness.
Frank's wife Krista was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and not like that news was not bad enough. They found out that their health insurance premiums that they were paying to their employer was not being paid to the insurance company. The employer was keeping that money.
So, they had no insurance coverage.
Krista is now cancer free but they are left with large medical bills.
What started out as a wish for recovery for his wife, Frank's cranes are his way to create a way to pay the medical bills.

I told Frank to keep me posted when the show will be. He sent me an email simply saying "more Cranes up on my website".
Liking Frank's Art, I went and checked out his website where I found Krista's story.

We are getting ready for our first Guest Artist of 2010!

We will be creating a Journal of Surfaces Friday March 26 6:30 - 9:30 pm. Playing with many techniques creating beautiful decorative paper surfaces and texture. These papers will then be coil bound together into a journal.
On Saturday March 27th 10 am - 5 pm, we will be creating Painted Woven Wonders.

A snowy weekend here in Colorado and we spent a wonderful Saturday creating in my Canvas Journal workshop.
Spring is just around the corner...... at least that is what they say! So that means that it is getting closer for our first traveling Guest Artist workshop.
Our first guest artist for 2010 is Mixed Media Collage Artist Jacqueline Sullivan March 26-28th. Check out more information about Jacqueline in "Our Artist Spotlight" section below.
On the website I have guest artist workshops posted and registration up and open through June 2010. Since my last email I have added Katie Kendrick's workshops. More info below.....
Also, I have made it easier for you to reserve your seat in workshops with a deposit of $50 for full day workshops and $25 for 1/2 day workshops with a link to pay your deposit online. This breaks up the payment for you and reserves your seat that way you don't risk the workshop becoming full.
Here are the details about deposits:
DEPOSIT ON A WORKSHOP: A non-refundable deposit of $50 for full day workshops or $25 for 1/2 day workshops can reserve your seat in the workshop.
The balance of the workshop fee is due 25 days prior to the date of the workshop to secure your seat in the workshop.

Jacqueline Sullivan From Michigan:
Jacqueline Sullivan has been a mixed media artist since first introduced to collage in a high school art class.
Jacqueline has a degree in graphic design and worked for many years as and advertising and publication designer. She also has studied Calligraphy and Lettering Arts with many world-reknowned instructors, including Sheila Waters, Jenny Groat and Reggie Exell.
She is full of techniques to create layers, texture and dimension to your collage and book arts.

Happy Friday!
I have moved my art studio to my home and am really excited about it! I can't wait to hold my own workshops from my home studio. See below for those workshops.
My 2010 Guest Artist workshops are coming together. The Guest Artist Workshops will still be held at the Bellvue Store as we love the country peace and beauty it provides. I will be posting these workshops on the website next week!
The space my shop has been in at the Bellvue store on the east side of the building is available to rent as of Feb 1st. It is a living space or will make for a wonderful art studio for one or more artists.
Rent per month is $650

Also, Below is information on a lecture at COCOA about Copyright Law. This is a must attend FREE Lecture for all us artists who use imagery in our work. Can we or can't we? What are the rules.

Local Arts Attorney to Speak on Copyright Law
The single most important intersection of creativity, business, and law for artists is copyright, yet many people in the creative industry have only a passing knowledge or worse, a mistaken understanding of the rules that govern the very ownership of their creative product.
As part of the Colorado Coalition of Artists Lecture series, local author, artist, designer, and intellectual property attorney Kevin Houchin will entertain and inform the group with a presentation on this important subject.

Christine will show you the basic techniques to soldering & glass cutting to create personalized piece of artwork. Great for gifts these images under glass can be pendants, ornaments, wall hangings or more!

Let's Play! This will give you an opportunity to explore many techniques on canvas including but not limited to... stencil, stamp, playing with texture, 3 different image transfer techniques, resists, and so much more.
Layers and layers of paint, images and mediums create the yummy-ness of this Canvas Journal!
No rules are set in stone! Which make this project great for beginners as well as advanced artists!
*If you have dietary restrictions, you are welcome to bring your lunch. There is a refrigerator and microwave on the premises.

What a transition 2009 was!
For Me Personally and for The Artists' Nook......
Personally: The end of my 19 year marriage, working through the hurt to discover myself again, renewing my faith and relationship with Jesus, and now finding a wonderful new relationship with an amazing guy!
For The Artists' Nook: Figuring out what are the important features of The Artists' Nook that drives my passion, inspires and nurtures others......
and what is taking my time, keeping me from that which I am passionate about.....
Which brings me to how The Artists' Nook will be in 2010
The Artists' Nook will focus on workshops with Nationally Known Traveling Guest Artists as I have been doing for 10 years and workshops with Christine (myself)
The workshops will be held at the Bellvue Store retreat location.
The Artists' Nook will be getting rid of all product inventory (See Sale info below)
Christine will be moving her art studio to her home and will focus on creating more art! Wow, what a concept!
I will no longer be in the space on the West side of the Bellvue store (saving myself some $$$ that way) as of Feb 1st.
The workshops will be held on the East side of the Bellvue store as usual
